Barnegat Brush Fire Is Under Control

The State Forest Fire Service says the fire thats been spreading through Barnegat since Saturday afternoon is under control.
Fire crews set backfires and plowed fire lines to contain the blaze. More than 540 acres were destroyed and areas damaged included woods near West Bay Avenue and north of Route 72 near Paramount Estates. Firefighters evacuated some people throughout the weekend, but no injuries were reported. The cause remains under investigation.
