Holt Demands Reversal In Fort Monmouth Closure

Plans may be in the works to convert Fort Monmouth to civilian uses, but Representative Rush Holt hasn't given up the fight.

The Shore Democrat urged defense officials in Washington on Thursday to reverse the decision. Holt blamed the skyrocketing cost of closure on flawed decisions and bogus estimates, but added that there's a moral urgency.

Holt cited GAO figures indicating that closure of the base on schedule will leave the Army short 2200 highly-skilled technicians who directly serve soldiers in action.
