Civilian Housing Study Bill Passes in the Full State Senate

The State Senate unanimously passes a bill commissioning three impact studies regarding the Navy's plans to place civilians in base housing at Naval Weapons Station Earle. 12th District Monmouth County State Senator Jennifer Beck says they're primarily concerned with the security risk.

"it's really crazy that you would have a security gate a thousand feet down where they go through all sorts of checks on everybody and you have another entrance right next to it where they're going to have unimpeded access."

Beck says the studies would be looking at the security issues, cost benefits, as well as the impact on local schools and the infrastructure.

The measure is up for review in an assembly committee.
