The Polar Bear Plunge Gets Set For This Weekend (AUDIO)

So just why are four thousand people set to jump into the freezing waters of the Atlantic Ocean tomorrow?

Listen to Jason Allentoff''s report

It's the 17th annual Polar Bear Plunge. The proceeds raised from those who take part will go to benefit Special Olympics New Jersey, a non-profit that provides free sports training to individuals with disabilities all year round.

Maria Maruca with the Seaside Heights Business Improvement District says each year, the popularity of the fundraiser continues to grow. She says "this year is no exception and we're expecting thousands of plungers as well as thousands of spectators. Businesses along the Seaside boardwalk will be open so come out and take advantage of the sunshine."

Last year alone, the event raised just under $1-million and this year, they're hoping for even more and a bigger turnout.

Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. so there's still time to sign up if you wanna brave the cold 25 - 30 degree water - all for a good cause! The event kicks off at 1 p.m.

Millennium Radio New Jersey's Big Joe Henry will be at the event broadcasting live just outside the Aztec Ocean Resort. For more information, visit njpolarbearplunge.org.
