Berkeley Townshp Throws Cold Water On Rate Increase Request

United Water Toms River's bid to raise rates for the second time in three years falls on deaf ears in Berkeley Township.

During Monday's public comment session in the Township Municipal Building, an administrative law judge listened to ratepayers and elected officials protest the request for 39 percent - beyond the 67 percent granted in 2008.

Operations Director Rick Pfleiderer says the company will respond to each speaker in writing.

The next step before action by the Board of Public Utilities is a July Administrative Law Hearing in Newark.
